Case Study | Manhattan Construction Company: Simplifying Change Management and Access Control
Goal
A privately-held construction company with a diverse portfolio desired a more streamlined and collaborative way to manage change management, budgets, and more.
Challenge
Finding a collaborative, web-based solution that provides their needs in a single software product.Solution
The company chose ProjectSight to manage budgets and change management. While still in the process of implementation, they look forward to utilizing ProjectSight’s modern system for tracking budgets and change management.Ongoing Benefits
Project managers have access to needed information and can control who sees each layer of the data—conveniently sharing or partitioning their work in progress for owners, subcontractors, and other stakeholders. Additionally, the tasks of data entry are shared with the various stakeholders.Company Profile
Based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Manhattan Construction Company manages approximately $1 billion per year in construction projects for a range of sectors including mission-critical healthcare, government, education, laboratory, science & technology, aviation, transportation, industrial, sports, convention, casino,
and hospitality.
Choosing ProjectSight
Initially, the company was attracted to ProjectSight because it provided a collaborative solution, involving the external stakeholders, while keeping hold of the functionality that Trimble had mastered years ago, in Prolog, for managing complex budgets and change management. “When you run a report, it’s telling you the truth,” says David Hansmann, Director of Project Controls. “It’s not a report missing information from an email that hasn’t been logged yet — it’s reality.”
For example, a subcontractor can drop into the system and enter pricing information. Although it’s not approved yet, it’s acknowledged and noted. Creating such a closed loop system for communication between stakeholders enhances communication and increases accountability for all those involved in a project.
“We know ProjectSight is not going anywhere, and that puts them in a stratosphere above the competition. Trimble is involved in the construction business and understands the inherent needs in these projects, along with the user interface and user experience required to be successful.”

Looking to the Future
For now, Manhattan Construction Company continues to use a blend of different software solutions for various elements of their projects, but eventually they want to simplify under fewer solutions. “We see ProjectSight as very close to getting the functionalities completed in a way that we can run with—and that’s the reason we came on board,” says David Hansmann, Director of Project Controls.
Ultimately, ProjectSight is helping the company’s project teams minimize their stress and additional work around managing access control. “Having the access control that ProjectSight offers is essential,” says David Hansmann, Director of Project Controls. “The ability to login and see how the same record will be viewed from three different sets of eyes, depending on each one’s project role, is very reassuring.
