Xchange 2022 Highlights
In person and livestream, the global user event drew a record crowd.
AgileAssets hosted its largest ever user conference—Xchange 2022—in Austin, Texas, May 23-25, 2022. The global event brought together nearly 200 transportation professionals from 10 countries, representing national, state and local government agencies alongside engineering firms that support civil infrastructure planning and asset management.
With 20 in-person and livestream sessions, Xchange 2022 offered many opportunities for attendees to interact with industry experts, share knowledge with peers and get answers to questions about AgileAssets products and the future of the company.
A Bright Future Within Trimble
Since being acquired by the industrial technology company Trimble in December 2021, AgileAssets has accelerated the innovation of its products. Together, the two companies will offer an even wider array of solutions and services to infrastructure owners. That’s why two sessions at Xchange—the opening keynote and a separate Q&A session with executives from both companies—were particularly timely and popular among attendees.
The kickoff keynote—”Better Together: Conversation with Trimble and AgileAssets Executives”—featured Rob Painter, CEO of Trimble; Shelly Nooner, Vice President of Innovation and Platform Strategy at Trimble; and Michael Lester, Business Area Director for AgileAssets. Their combined remarks reinforced Trimble’s strategic vision as the only company in the world that is bringing together the people, technologies and processes to seamlessly integrate the design, construction and maintenance activities necessary to support the full lifecycle of infrastructure assets.
For public agencies and other infrastructure owners, this integration of critical workflows and technologies means that “digital twins” will become central tools in the planning, operation and maintenance of these assets. Digital twins are 3D visual models that accurately represent real infrastructure assets as they change over time, enabling the teams who build and manage those assets to better understand their design, geographic location, structural attributes, evolving condition, environmental impacts and more—all without using printed blueprints, maps or reports.
The advantages of this digitized approach to infrastructure lifecycle management are significant increases in worksite safety, project cost savings, operational efficiency and asset performance.
New Look for AgileAssets Brand
The opening keynote also revealed the new AgileAssets brand logo, which will represent AgileAssets going forward as a Trimble product, not a separate company. In addition to the AgileAssets name, the new logo includes a triangular symbol that resembles the letter “A” and suggests the three key phases of the infrastructure lifecycle that Trimble products support: design, construction and maintenance.
In the near future, AgileAssets customers will see the new branding show up on new releases of AgileAssets applications. The AgileAssets user interface for all applications is being enhanced to simplify navigation and improve usability.
Product Innovations & Customer Successes
A second keynote, “AgileAssets and Trimble Product Update and Roadmap” highlighted the latest features of AgileAssets’ most recent software version release (v7.7.1) and provided insight into ongoing enhancements and innovations of AgileAssets’ web and mobile applications. AgileAssets solutions help infrastructure owners manage roadways, sidewalks, bridge structures, traffic signs, signals and virtually any other transportation assets using a single web-based platform.
More than a dozen breakout sessions across two days at Xchange provided deeper insight into a wide range of use cases of AgileAssets products from the perspectives of successful infrastructure owners themselves. Topics ranged from meeting strategic goals using pavement management best practices to managing risk in a structures network and implementing greater efficiencies in fieldwork.
“Agency Insights” sessions provided first-hand customer success stories and best practices from organizations such as New York State DOT, Minnesota DOT, Texas DOT, Oklahoma DOT and the international airport operator Vinci Airports, among others.
Hands-on workshops helped attendees build their skills in a variety of areas, including creating maps to visualize asset inventory and performance attributes, creating reports and dashboards to tell a story with visualizations and using the AgileAssets Structures Inspector™ mobile application to streamline and improve bridge inspections.
AXIAM Awards Celebration
A longstanding Xchange tradition, the AgileAssets Excellence in Infrastructure Asset Management (AXIAM) Awards ceremony served as the capstone and closing session of the conference. The AXIAM Awards recognize organizations that demonstrate a particularly innovative or effective use of AgileAssets solutions to meet strategic or operational asset management goals. The winners are determined by the real-time votes of Xchange attendees based on short presentations by the nominees and simple voting criteria.
Five organizations were nominated for an AXIAM Award in 2022: Minnesota DOT, New Mexico DOT, New York State DOT, Texas DOT, and Vinci Airports. The first-place award went to Minnesota DOT (MnDOT) for its notable improvements in maintenance operations. MnDOT maintains more than 1 million transportation assets using multiple integrated AgileAssets applications.
Vinci Airports was named the AXIAM Award runner-up for its global implementation of an integrated AgileAssets solution for airport pavement and maintenance management that operates in three languages at numerous airports worldwide.
